Nexgard for cats uses active ingredients, Esafoxolaner, Eprinomectin and Praziquantel. This product is a spot-on solution that offers your cat protection from parasites for up to four weeks. As NexGard Spectra kills fleas before they can reproduce and go through their maturation stages, it has recently been given the label claim to kill flea tapeworm (Dipylidium caninum). Tapeworms are transmitted by fleas (Dipylidium Caninum). NexGard Spectra does not directly kill Tapeworms, these are a zoonotic infection and can infect humans and more commonly children. In tick paralysis areas ensure you are using every 28 days. It also provides effective control of pre-existing paralysis tick infestations within 24 hours. NexGard Spectra is now also registered for the prevention of paralysis ticks (Ixodes holocyclus), brown dog ticks and bush ticks for 28 days. This eliminates the requirement to use some of the older and riskier treatment methods for these commonly seen conditions. Subsequent to the registration of the product, studies have been conducted to demonstrate NexGard Spectra is also effective against demodectic mange (Demodex spp), sarcoptic manges (Sarcoptes Scabei) and ear mites, otodectic mange (Otodectes cynotis).
